Ireland’s first Dublin-distilled Irish Whiskey in nearly 50 years has been released

Dublin’s Teeling distillery has unveiled a new single pot still Whiskey that represents the first to be distilled in Dublin in almost 50 years.

The Teeling Single Pot Still Whiskey represents the company’s first commercial bottling since it opened in 2015.

Distilled from a mash containing a mix of 50% malted barley and 50% unmalted barley, the Whiskey has also been matured using a mix of virgin oak, ex-Bourbon and ex-wine casks.

Bottled at 46% abv just 6,000 bottles of the Whiskey’s first batch have been released exclusively to drinkers over in Ireland.

Teeling Whiskey founder and managing director Jack Teeling hailed the new spirit as the start of a golden era for Dublin and Irish Whiskey.

“When the Teeling Whiskey Company was formed in 2012, my vision was to revive Irish Whiskey distilling in Dublin and put our capital city back at the top table of Whiskey producing areas in the world,” he told Scotch Whisky.

“While we have achieved a lot over the subsequent six years, the release of our own Dublin-distilled Whiskey completes the revival of the craft of distilling in Dublin and hopefully draws us into a new renaissance for not only Teeling Whiskey but Dublin distilled Irish Whiskey as a whole.

“We look forward to helping drive a new golden era for Dublin and Irish Whiskey.”

Bottles will be available to buy from the Teeling distillery gift shop for the not inconsiderable sum of €55 a bottle.

That still represents something of a bargain though considering that the first 100 bottles of Teeling Single Pot Still were auctioned off for far more back in September.

Put up for auction as part of a fundraiser for several local Dublin charities, the event saw the very first bottle of the new Whiskey fetch £10,000.

That sum represents a new world record for the most expensive Whiskey ever sold from a new distillery.
