Aromatics
This wine is wonderfully aromatic offering scents of red and black fruits with tart fruits rivaling the sweet ripe fruits and accents of brown baking spices, damp earth, and subtle oak notes.
Flavor
The palate echoes the nose delivering a rich but amazingly sprite fruit-driven core with ripe red cherries and bright cranberries taking center stage with waves of blackberry.
Intensity & Texture
Full-bodied while being very nimble with a lovely velvety texture matched by a bright dose of acidity that keeps it fresh and lively.
Cool Factor
We always love a well-made GSM regardless of where it's made but Oregon seems to offer the ideal climate for these varietals.
Value Grade
At $50 a bottle this is not your bargain house wine but it is absolutely delicious so save it for your best meals.
Analysis
Can a wine exhibit vibrancy and a silky texture all at once? The answer is yes and we found it with the Troon GSM. This delicious wine is made with a blend of Mourvédre 50.6%, Syrah 45.2%, and Grenache 4.2%. The varietals were fermented and barrel aged separately and then brought together in this blend. The aging took place in mature Burgundy French oak barrels for a period of 20 months. Chances are that any attempt to place this wine in your cellar will be squashed by the desire to drink it now. 94 points.
How to Enjoy
This juicy and friendly wine is ready to drink now but it will cellar well for at least five years. Please decant this wine so it will show you its many nuances. Serve with grilled or roasted meats.
