The Drinks Bakery, founded in 2017 by Andy Murray (not the tennis player — this Andy is known for good food), is a premium producer of savoury biscuits. Inspired by European aperitif traditions and the increasing popularity of craft drinks, the company spotted a market gap: traditional snacks like crisps and nuts hadn’t kept pace with innovative beverages. Located in the Scottish Highlands, they bake their biscuits by hand in small batches, using only high-quality natural ingredients without any artificial additives, colourings, or flavourings.
Their flagship product line, Drinks Biscuits, consists of rich, crumbly savoury biscuits expertly flavour-profiled to complement and enhance specific drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic), elevating the pairing experience beyond ordinary bar snacks.
They have earned a loyal following as well as grabbing multiple awards, including being named “Best Snack” at the Scotland Food & Drink Excellence Awards.
We tasted the core flavors, and here is our take on Drinks Biscuits:
Parmesan Cheese & Sweet Basil — It tastes as advertised, with rich Parmesan in the lead, supported by sweet basil. They recommend pairing it with a lighter style of Whiskey — we concur. We also like it with an Aperol Spritz or a Weissbier.
Lancashire Cheese & Spring Onion — The Lancashire Cheese is prominent with the spring onion offering a subtle accent. This biscuit screams for a Dry Stout, a malty Whisky, or a bold rosé sparkling wine.
Pecorino Cheese & Rosemary — We thought that the rosemary and seaweed would clash, but they work well together. The Pecorino is less prominent than we imagined, but it does marry all the flavors.
Mature Cheddar & Smoked Chilli — What a great combo! This biscuit pairs with any bold drink. Try a malty ale, a Whiskey cocktail, or a Southern Rhone red.
The biscuits are not cheap, but they are handmade and delicious, built to be savored slowly. Find these tasty biscuits and other items at The Bees Knees British Imports. Here is a primer on Pairing Food and Wine.
