We love a great Irish Red with its sweet malt notes and brilliant drinkability.

B

At just about $7 for the four-pack it's quite reasonable considering the quality and pedigree.

Analysis

The O'Hara's Irish Red Ale is a more recent addition to the Carlow Brewing lineup as there is a renewed interest in the style. Some Irish beer aficionados may remember this ale called by its former name, Moling's Red Ale — also made at Carlow Brewing. The recipe has not changed. This is a classic top-fermented ale with a modest 34 IBUs that may confuse the dedicated hopheads but will delight those of us who remember when hops were an accent in beer rather than the dominant flavor. A superb session ale with charm to spare.

How to Enjoy

Serve chilled in a tulip glass or conical glass. It's great all by itself but pairs well with beef stews or an aged cheddar.
