Troon Vineyard Syrah Applegate Valley 2023
Troon’s Syrah is more balanced and restrained than most New World Syrah, with moderate alcohol and an ideal balance of acidity — it’s certainly made in the mold of the Rhône Valley but has some characteristics of Burgundy. Troon’s 2023 Syrah is a blend of three of the four Syrah clones grown in their estate vineyards: 50% clone 470, 33% clone 174, and 17% Joseph Phelps clone.

Domaine des Herbauges La Roche Blanche Muscadet Muscadet-Côtes de Grandlieu 2024Brilliant, light pale straw color. The nose is moderately intense, offering scents of honeysuckle, green melon, and citrus zest with supporting notes of beeswax, red grapefruit, slate, and meringue. The palate echoes the nose, delivering a ripe orchard fruit-driven core with flavors of jasmine, lemon, quince, and wet stones. The finish is crisp. Sullivan’s Brewing Irish Gold Golden Ale (Ireland)
Medium golden color, mildly hazy, with a frothy white head. The nose is filled with the scents of toasted malt, honey, light caramel, and roasted peaches. The palate is in full accord with the nose, delivering a honeyed malt-driven core with waves of toasted cereal foiled by accents of citrus. Medium-bodied and ideally balanced, with a long, lingering finish. $12, 4-Pk/Pub Can, 14.9 oz. – 4.5 Stars

Mount Gay 15 Years Old RumBright, medium tawny/amber color. The aromatics are very intense, offering scents of butterscotch, crème brulee, and banana bread with supporting notes of caramel, vanilla bean, treacle, dried fruits, and cashew butter. The palate confirms the nose, delivering a butterscotch-driven core with supporting flavors of baking spices, marzipan, orange peel, and ginger biscuits. The finish is long and lingering. Full-bodied and perfectly balanced with an opulent texture. $90 – 5 Stars
Mount Gay 25 Years Old 1999 Rum
Bright, deep chestnut color. The aromatics are very intense, giving scents of treacle, ginger biscuits, and toffee with supporting notes of baking spices, cocoa, maple syrup, and molasses. The palate echoes the nose, delivering a decadent gingerbread-driven core with flavors akin to caramel, dark chocolate, black fruits, praline, and five spice. The finish is long and lingering. Full-bodied and ideally balanced with a voluptuous texture. $199 – 4.5 Stars
