Campo de' Fiori
Everyone loves a great French 75, don't they? If you know someone who doesn't love a good French 75, reconsider the friendship. Like all great cocktails, there are countless variations — some good and some bad. (If the French 75 and the Negroni had a baby, it would be the Campo de' Fiori.) I have simply married my love of the French 75 with my love of Rome to create a cocktail that features the color of amore. It is certainly great for a romantic evening, but equally refreshing anytime you crave red fruits with effervescence.
Ingredients
1 oz. London Dry Gin
1/2 oz. simple syrup
1/2 oz. Campari
3 oz. Lambrusco
lemon twist for garnish
Occasion
You can serve this drink at any time, but for me it's one of the ultimate apertifs, quenching thirst while stimulating the appetite.
Method
Add the first three ingredients, along with a handful of ice, to a cocktail shaker and shake well. Strain into a coupe, Champagne flute, or perhaps a Collins glass filled half with ice. Top with the Lambrusco and garnish with a lemon twist.
Variations
There are many opportunities to swap in different Gins and sparkling wines. You can even mix up the colors with a pink or rosé sparkling wine.
