BevX Cocktails
The Classic Gimlet
It's believed that this drink was created to protect sailors from scurvy giving a needed vitamin C boost via limejuice.
The drink can be found in cocktail books from the 1930s where it most commonly made with lime cordial — aka Rose's Lime. Rose's lime is not a product that can be endorsed by BevX as it is a shadow of its former glory. Use fresh limejuice or a homeade lime cordial. It's a perfect before dinner drink whetting the appetite and setting the mood for the evening.
Ingredients
2 oz. Gin
.5 oz. fresh imejuice
.5 oz. simple syrup
lime wheel for garnish
Occasion
Make this cocktail anytime that you want a refreshing start of a meal or the perfect end of the work day.
Method
Place all of the ingredients in a shaker and top with ice. Shake vigorously and strain into a cocktail or coupe glass.
Variations
This is another cocktail that has inspired countless variations, which are all (for the most part) fine with me as long as you keep the Gin! An additional point of conversation, or argument, is whether to serve this cocktail up and neat in a cocktail glass or in a highball glass over ice.
