Godfather

A BevX Cocktail Recipe

The Godfather is one of those two-ingredient cocktails that has been hiding in plain sight for decades, dismissed as a relic of the 1970s and never given a proper hearing by the craft cocktail world. That is a shame. Scotch and Amaretto, in the right proportions, produce a drink of real depth and warmth — the nutty sweetness of the Amaretto rounding off Scotch's edges without blunting its character. Make it with good Whisky, and you may never order a Scotch neat again — at least not every time.

Ingredients

2 oz. Scotch Whisky (quality blended Whisky)
1/2 oz. Amaretto

Occasion

A warm-weather sipper that works equally well as an after-dinner drink. It should go without saying, but the drink improves with the quality of the Whisky.

Method

Fill a rocks glass with ice. Add the Scotch Whisky and Amaretto and stir briefly to combine. Garnish with an orange twist if you like, though the drink needs nothing.

Variations

The Godmother substitutes Vodka for Scotch; the Godchild adds cream. The proportions are everything — dial back the Amaretto if your Whisky is delicate, increase it if you are using something peaty and aggressive.
