Aromatics

The aromatics are very intense, giving scents of baked apple, candied ginger, and pear with supporting notes of dried orchard fruits, baking spices, honey, and butterscotch.

Flavor

The palate echoes the nose, delivering a baked apple-driven core with flavors of cinnamon, crème brulee, toffee, and sultanas. The finish is long and lingering.

Analysis

Calvados Lelouvier Vieux moves beyond Fine's youthful energy with more than three years in old oak. That extra time in wood brings real integration and maturity, but the apple-and-pear character stays front and center — this is still recognizably Calvados, Normandy's answer to a long tradition of distilling cider into something stronger. The AOC designation ties it to that regulated heritage. Vieux occupies the sweet spot in the Lelouvier range: mature enough to show what aging can do, yet still lively and approachable. Pour it as an aperitif, use it for the classic Trou Normand between courses, or let it close out dessert. Few expressions do so much with so little fuss.
