Carol Shelton Rocky Reserve Zinfandel Rockpile 2014
In the Glass
Brilliant, deep ruby/purple color.
The aromatics are very intense offering scents of blackberry and blueberry with supporting notes of mineral and cocoa.
The palate echoes the nose delivering a red and black fruits-driven core with flavors of sour cherry. The finish is long and lingering with chewy tannins.
Intensity & Texture
Full-bodied and nicely balanced with a supple texture.
Pleasing single-vineyard Zinfandel from a great producer like Carol Shelton is always cool.
This wine won't be found in the bargain bin but considering the quality and the rarity we don't mind the price tag.
This rich and complex Zinfandel is made with a classic field blend that includes 14% Petite Sirah. The grapes are sourced from the Florence Vineyard that sits 1,400 feet above Lake Sonoma and the Dry Creek Valley. The wine is aged for a period of 20 months in French (60%) and American (30%) oak. The result is a classic Sonoma Zinfandel with bright fruit and superb spice accents. Get you bottles while you can as just 537 were produced.
How to Enjoy
You really need nothing more than a glass but this supple red is a great friend to the weekend BBQ.
