Brandy Alexander

At times there is nothing like an "Old School" cocktail made without embellishment. The Brandy Alexander evokes visions and the mood of cocktail parties long disbanded but one I would love to attend from time to time. One of the greatest things about our current cocktail revival is the rediscovery of cocktails long considered passé. The Brandy Alexander is a theme party just waiting to happen.

Ingredients

2 oz. Brandy (VSOP level Cognac is ideal)
1 oz. Half & Half
1 oz. Creme de Cacao - Dark
Nutmeg for garnish

Occasion

I've known some to drink this old classic year round but you won't find me joining in. This should be made in the winter holidays preferably with snow falling and a fire roaring.

Method

Pour all of the ingredients in a cocktail shaker with a handful of ice and shake vigorously. Strain into a cocktail glass and garnish with freshly grated nutmeg.

Variations

There is not much to fool with here but you can always vary the Brandy and if you are feeling outrageous substitute eggnog for the half & half.
