Blackthorn
The Blackthorn is a lovely old Whiskey cocktail that is in the Manhattan family relying on a base of Whiskey. However, we find the Blackthorn to be more than just a Manhattan with a unique twist. The deep and mellow flavors of Irish Whiskey provide the perfect canvas for the supporting ingredients and the Absinthe adds a distinctive punch.
Ingredients
2 oz. Quality Irish Whiskey
1 oz. Sweet Vermouth
2 dashes of Bitters
2 dashes Absinthe
Occasion
Serve the Blackthorn cocktail anytime that you would a classic Manhattan — anytime.
Method
In a cocktail shaker stir all ingredients with ice and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with a lemon zest twisted over the top of the drink and dropped into the drink.
Variations
The Blackthorn has distinct variations as some (like us) believe this to be an Irish Whiskey cocktail while other believe it to be made with Sloe Gin. Try the Sloe Gin version if you like — it's not bad.
