Dark 'n Stormy
The drink that made Bermuda famous (Or was that all of those missing ships and planes?) is the Dark 'n Stormy.
On paper, this cocktail appears to be rather dull, but I assure you it is far from ordinary. The key to building a successful Dark & Stormy is in the shopping. Yes, the shopping. Ordinary Dark Rum and ginger ale make for a very bland, uninspired drink. However, if you seek a great Dark Rum and true ginger beer, you will be greatly rewarded with a tremendous cocktail.
The use of lime is hotly debated, but we like adding freshly squeezed lime because it accentuates the spicy notes of the ginger beer and acts as a foil to the rich flavors of the Dark Rum. With or without the lime, the Dark & Stormy is an essential cocktail in your bag of entertaining tricks.
Ingredients
2 oz. Dark Rum (don't skimp!)
4 oz. Ginger Beer (don't skimp!)
.5 oz. Limejuice
Lime wheel garnish
Occasion
Serve anytime of the year.
Method
Build the drink in a tall glass, adding all three ingredients atop a generous portion of ice — garnish with a lime wheel. Stir gently and enjoy!
Variations
This drink can be subtly varied through your choice of Rum and ginger beer. We suggest using a high-quality, assertive ginger beer to give this drink its signature spice.
