Analysis

We are very pleased to see the second vintage of Troon Vineyard’s Druid’s Pink. One factor that makes this wine shine is the fact that all four varietals utilized are grown with the intention of creating a refreshing, yet substantial rosé wine. Like last year, their 2024 rosé is made with a blend of 62% Mourvedre, 18% Grenache, 8% Cinsault, 7% Carignan, and 5% Counoise. Because of different ripening times, these grapes were mostly harvested and fermented separately before being blended into the final wine. Mourvèdre provides body and fruit, enhanced by intriguing herbal notes. Grenache adds weight and texture along with plenty of fruit. Cinsault brings bright red fruit, and Counoise contributes acidity and almost a minerality or salinity. The whole clusters were gently pressed to extract as little color as possible. The juice was fermented in neutral barrels with native yeasts, and then the malolactic process (softening the sharp acid profile) was encouraged. Then, the juice rested on the lees for roughly six months — quite unusual for a rosé. Like all Troon Vineyard wines, the Druid’s Pink is bottled unfined and unfiltered. It’s absolutely gorgeous.

How to Enjoy

Serve chilled with nothing but a glass or pair with grilled fish or fowl, as well as spicy Asian noodle dishes.
