It's an Oregon Vermentino and it's from Troon, which makes it pretty cool before you pull the cork. Once you do pull the cork you find the best damn Vermentino that you ever had.

A virtually perfect Vermentino, made in small quantities, sold at an extremely fair price of $35 a bottle is an amazing value.

Analysis

We have been a fan of the Troon Vermentino since first tasting their 2014 vintage — now they have perfected the craft. Troon Vineyard's Vermentino is not styled in the mold of either French or Italian Vermentino; it has developed a unique style that is 100% Troon. It was clear then, and remains certain now, that the climate and soils in Oregon's Applegate Valley are ideal for growing grapes like Vermentino. In their Biodynamic vineyards, the wines often reflect the vintage. In previous vintages that we have seen, Troon’s Vermentino was fermented and rested in neutral oak. Now it is made entirely in large, concrete tanks crafted in France by Nomblot. These concrete tanks hold the volume of 13 barriques. In addition to having a neutral impact on the wine's flavor, concrete acts as an oxygen time-release capsule, slowly and continuously releasing oxygen into the wine. They often foot-tread Vermentino just prior to pressing, as its thick skins challenge the small press. This brief skin maceration adds an interesting edge to this unique wine — we think that you will agree.
