Rob Roy
The Rob Roy is a classic cocktail created in New York City at the Waldorf Hotel in 1894. It was originally crafted to celebrate the opening of an opera called “Rob Roy.” The cocktail turned out to be much longer lived than the opera as it is enjoying a strong popularity today in the midst of our cocktail renaissance and the ever-growing appreciation of a good Whisky cocktail.
Ingredients
2 oz. Blended Scotch Whisky
3/4 oz. Italian Vermouth, sweet
1 to 2 dashes of Angostura bitters
Occasion
Enjoy this great Whisky cocktail anytime there is a chill in the air.
Method
Pour and shake all ingredients in to a cocktail shaker one-third filled with cracked ice. Shake well and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with a lemon twist or a brandied (or Whisky soaked) cherry – if you must.
Variations
Variations abound including a dry version but I like the classic and haven't found any reason to fiddle with it while the Robert Burns Cocktail is a fine variation.
