El Diablo
When I offer this cocktail to guests the inevitable question is heard, "Is this spicy?" A logical question with a name like El Diablo. However the name is in reference to the bright red color. The devil never seemed so soothing and gentle as the El Diablo cocktail. I typically use Blanco Tequila exclusively in cocktails but this drink is better with a quality reposado. Just be sure that the reposado you choose offers a subtle addition of wood. It's dead easy to make and it always satisfies.
Ingredients
2 oz. Reposado Tequila (100% Agave of course)
1/2 oz. Crème de Cassis
1/2 oz. Lime Juice
3 oz. Ginger beer
Occasion
Any occasion at all will do but we like it spring through autumn.
Method
Add the first three ingredients to a shaker and give it a healthy shake. Strain into a Collins glass filed with ice and then top with the ginger beer. Garnish with a lime wheel.
Variations
Many variations can be found but you can easily alter this drink with your choice of Tequila and substituting Mezcal in would be a logical and tasty choice.
