Far East Caipirinha

There is no doubt that the Caipirinha is a madly popular cocktail combining tart refreshing flavors with mental images of the white sand beaches of São Paulo, Brazil. The rise of the Brazilian “Churrasco” steakhouse, which has found its way to every major, and many secondary, markets in America hasn’t hurt either. As is the case with every classic cocktail, variations abound. My variation combines the flavors of Brazilian beach culture with the scents and flavors of the Far East by the addition of a quality Ginger Liqueur. The interplay of Cachaça, lime, and this unique ginger liqueur conspire to hypnotize your taste buds. Be sure to lock away the car keys when enjoying this cocktail.

Ingredients

2 oz. Cachaça
1/2 oz. Ginger Liqueur
1 tsp sugar
1 lime (cut into wedges)
ice cubes

Occasion

Serve this drink anytime but it's especially good if you are in danger of breaking a sweat.

Muddle lime with sugar in a rocks glass. Fill the glass with ice. Pour in Cachaça along with the ginger liqueur and stir. Garnish with a lime wedge.
