Brilliant, crystal clear.

The aromatics are rich with sweet grain, malt, caramel, toffee, and loads of brown baking spices with accents of candied ginger, vanilla bean, and peppery rye notes.

The palate mirrors the nose delivering a lush malt and grain core with baking spice and black pepper notes rising on the finish. The rye notes are evident but a companion to the grain core rather than a dominating force.

Ideally balanced with long, lingering flavors and a fresh dose of acidity.

Cool Factor

Blending Scotch Whisky and Rye might be the most perfect idea since pairing peanut butter with chocolate.

Value Grade

How often do I get to give a Scotch Whisky our highest value grade? Far too scarce I must say. This Whisky is an absolute value in today's market.

Analysis

The 10 year-old blended Whisky has the Cardhu Single Malt at its heart. It's aged for the decade plus in first-fill American casks followed by four weeks in ex-rye Whiskey casks. It's easy to get cynical about continued line-extentions from the big brands but they hit a home run with Johnnie Walker Rye. Bottled at 46% this is the most potent of the JW family.
