Gundlach Bundschu Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast 2014
In the Glass
Brilliant, medium ruby color.
The aromatics are very intense offering scents of black cherry, cassis, and boysenberry with supporting notes of black tea and baking spices.
The palate confirms the nose delivering a red fruit-driven core with flavors of pomegranate. The finish lingers with supple tannins.
Intensity & Texture
Medium-bodied and perfectly balanced with an opulent texture.
Rich and juicy Pinot Noir will always have a loyal audience.
At $40 a bottle the price tag will not shock or scare most dedicated Pinot lovers but it does place it out of reach of a great many wine drinkers.
This juicy red is made with 100% Pinot Noir. The fruit is sourced from the family vineyards located on the southwestern slopes of the Mayacamas Mountains. The vineyard itself is over 150 years in age and 20% of the grapes utilized in this wine come from vines that are greater than 40 years old. The wine is rested in 100% French oak, of which 40% is new, for a period of 10 months. The resulting wine is quite juicy with supple tannins and silky spice notes. 88 points.
