Tieton Cider Works “Tieton Blend - Dry” (USA)
Bright golden color with a moderate stream of fine bubbles. The nose is fresh and somewhat subtle with vibrant, ripe apple pulp taking the lead with hints of mineral and apple skin. The first sip is bone dry with a framing note of tart apple acidity. Subsequent sips soften showing a subtle ripeness allowing the fruit to blossom. A refreshing note of bitterness can be found throughout with a complex skin tannin note setting the finish. Lovely. 4 Stars
Tieton Cider Works “Wild Washington Apple - Semi-Dry” (USA)
Bright golden color with a stream of fine bubbles. The nose is vibrant and fresh ripe apples and notes of apple pie as well incorporating subtle hints of spice. The palate echoes the nose with a juicy core that is drier than expected. In fact, the residual sugar level here would be considered dry by most while it is designated as semi-dry here. The flavors linger for minutes with accents of lime zest and apple skin that give it definition and character. 4 Stars
Tieton Cider Works “Cherry” (USA)
Bright, natural burgundy color with a fine bead of bubbles. The nose is wonderfully complex and appealing with a careful blend of sweet and tart cherries, apple juice, and apple skins. The palate is equally compelling offering the perfect balance of cherry and apple as well as sweet and tart. A semi-dry style that benefits from the slight touch of sugar as it adds heft to the complex fruit blend. It is lovely in its simplicity as well as its complexity making it perfect for any crowd or occasion. Terrific stuff. 5 Stars
Great Lakes Christmas Ale (USA)
See the Full BevX Featured Review & Beverage of the WeekDeep amber, reddish color with a thick and persistent head. The nose is dense with rich, sweet malt with accents of brown baking spices, ginger, cardamom, and pine cone. The palate is in full agreement being rich while never cloying. A harmonious brew with great length and balance. Rich and mildly spicy with warming malt notes and just enough hops to add a crisp edge. 4.5 Stars
New Glarus Wisconsin Belgian Red (USA)
Dark tan with a reddish tint. Medium bodied. Exotic brown spice and cooked cherry aromas. This has clearly seen good oak aging. Carries a fine note of soured cherry, matched with some sweetness and a rich, woody character that lingers on the finish. Very harmonious and quite unique. 5 Stars
Ommegang Hennepin (USA)
This fresh and hoppy, farmhouse style ale has a champagne like effervescence with a crisp but light on the tongue finish. Very true to the classic Belgian style offering both rusticity with the bright flavors of spring. A wonderful brew offered at a bargain price. 4 Stars
Sam Adams Boston Lager (USA)
See the Full BevX Featured ReviewBrilliant golden amber color. The nose reveals a complex marriage of roasted malt and fresh German hops that offer floral, citrus zest, and pine cone aromatics. The palate exhibits a rich malty, toffee like core with a crisp, mildly tart edge. Wonderfully balanced and ultimately satisfying. Medium to full-bodied with perfect balance seamlessly weaving malt and noble hop notes. 4 Stars
Great Lakes Dortmunder Gold (USA)
See the Full BevX Featured ReviewBrilliant golden color with a fine bead of bubbles that streams upward from the time it's poured until the last swallow. The aromatics are malty and floral with sweet grain notes and a well-integrated hops impression. The palate is substantial while dry with crisp grain and citrus notes. Ideally balanced with great length and a dry, vibrant finish. Richer than the classic German Dortmunders with more malt for the American Craft Beer lovers while keeping vibrant. 4 Stars
Goose Island Matilda (USA)
See the Full BevX Featured ReviewA rich copper color with a thick, white head. A Belgian Abbey style ale offering a complex mélange of fruit, malt, and hops accented with notes of citrus, clove, caramel, pepper, and cardamom. The palate fully concurs with the nose offering rich malt flavors with accents of fruit, spice, and citrus. Rich and creamy with enough acid to keep it fresh with a subtle hop note as well. 5 Stars
