Simple Syrup
As the name implies — this is a very simple syrup. If you can boil water — you can make simple syrup. Despite being simple, simple syrup is an essential ingredient in dozens if not hundreds of cocktails as well as ice tea and lemonade.
It’s made with equal portions of water and sugar — plain old white sugar found in any home kitchen.
Once you have mastered simple syrup you can get creative and infuse your syrup with flavors such as: vanilla bean, citrus zest, star anise, cinnamon and so on.
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup of water
- 1/2 cup of sugar
Dissolve the sugar in warm water over medium heat. You will know when the syrup is finished as it will become totally clear — like water. Cool and then transfer to a glass jar with a tight lid. Store in the fridge for up to a month. This recipe is easily scalable.
