Don Q Double Aged Cognac Cask Finish Rum

Product Story

It’s been five years since we first tried Don Q’s great aged Rum finished in Vermouth casks. We were incredibly impressed and recently their latest double aged Rums are just as delicious. This complex Rum is made from a blend of the classic Don Q Rums aged five to eight years in American oak followed by two years in French Cognac casks. While cask finishing (the process of resting a spirit in a cask foreign to its usual aging regime) adds new flavors to most any spirit — very few have achieved this level of success. The integration of aromatics and flavors are seamless. These innovative Rums don’t just happen. It is the result of decades of work and commitment by the Serrallés family and the unmistakable talent of Don Q’s Maestra Ronera Silvia Santiago. It’s fitting that on International Women’s Day that we celebrate a great spirit made by one the industries greatest stars.

Tasting Note

Brilliant, copper to amber color. The nose is absolutely gorgeous and complex, offering scents of deep caramel, baked apples, molasses, vanilla, and an unmistakable dose of Cognac cask with its rich brown baking spices. The palate is in agreement with the nose delivering lush caramel and fruit with silky brown butter and baking spices foiled by accents of ginger, oak, and hints of black pepper. Full-bodied with perfect balance as the spice notes and abundant acidity rival the decadent flavors. This complex Rum is made from a blend of the classic Don Q Rums aged five to eight years in American oak followed by two years in French Cognac casks. $79.99 –
