Beverage of the Week (BOW)
Tongue Dancer Wines Rosé of Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast 2022
Product Story
This wine represents the nineth commercial release of the delicious Tongue Dancer Wines (TDW) Rosé of Pinot Noir (the seventh that we have reviewed). Their 2022 Rosé continues to be made with the saigné method — a winemaking technique that bleeds off a portion of juice after a brief contact. They check the tank regularly waiting until the perfect color is achieved. While the TDW Rosé of Pinot Noir has always been dry, this year it’s drier still while still maintaining the generous red fruits we love in this wine. The wine is fermented and aged in stainless steel having been inoculated with Bandol (Provence, France) yeast like previous vintages. This Rosé is in short supply so get yours fast an annual favorite.
Brand Story
Tongue Dancer Wines is the creation of James and Kerry MacPhail. If you are a California Pinot Noir lover you likely know James' previous work with MacPhail Family Wines. James knows how to make amazing Pinot Noir and Chardonnay and James knows a lot of people who grow spectacular Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. We have been reviewing the wines from Tongue Dancer for the better part of a decade and we have never seen a Tongue Dancer Wine fail to earn Four-Stars or better. Tongue Dancer is constantly innovating, releasing new wines every year while never missing a beat. Last year they surprised us with the release of a great, dry cider! This is a winery to watch. The wines are always in short supply so be swift. Visit their website and join their mailing list to get direct access to their wines.
Tasting Note
Brilliant, pale coral color. The aromatics are intense, offering scents of raspberry and boysenberry with supporting notes of orange peel, kumquat, slate, and hibiscus flower. The palate echoes the nose delivering a red fruit-driven core with flavors of red cherry, strawberry, apricot stone, and hints of cranberry. The finish is long and lingering with beautiful red berry acidity. Medium-bodied and perfectly balanced with a vibrant texture yet juicy with a steely edge.
How to Serve
This wine really needs nothing but a glass and a comfortable chair but its bold flavors and bright acidity make this a great food wine pairing perfectly with sushi.
