Beverage of the Week (BOW)

Tongue Dancer Wines Rambling Fox Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast 2021

Product Story

This is the debut of Tongue Dancer Wines (TDW) Rambling Foot that may, or may not, have a recurring role in the unfolding tale of this beloved Sonoma winery. This label has evolved like the others before it such as Foxtrot and The Sly One as a way to showcase different vineyards and unique blends of fruit from two or more vineyards. The fruit for this amazingly delicious Pinot hails from Terra de Promissio and the Lofty Vineyard (part of the Putnam Vineyard, a regular source for TDW). A similar blend has previously been showcased by TDW with their Sonoma Coast Pinot Noirs from 2019 and 2020, as well as their Ultra Pinot in 2019. This wine was quite dense and remained tight for an extended period prompting TDW to hold it in bottle for an extra six months. Now this wine is just starting to bloom and we absolutely love it. It’s made in small quantities and it may never be the same again so get yours while it lasts.

Brand Story

Tongue Dancer Wines is the creation of James and Kerry MacPhail. If you are a California Pinot Noir lover you likely know James' previous work with MacPhail Family Wines. James knows how to make amazing Pinot Noir and Chardonnay and James knows a lot of people who grow spectacular Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. We have been reviewing the wines from Tongue Dancer for the better part of a decade and we have never seen a Tongue Dancer Wine fail to earn Four-Stars or better. Tongue Dancer is constantly innovating, releasing new wines every year while never missing a beat. Last year they surprised us with the release of a great, dry cider! This is a winery to watch. The wines are always in short supply so be swift. Visit their website and join their mailing list to get direct access to their wines.

Tasting Note

Brilliant, deep ruby color. The aromatics are intense, offering scents of black cherry, forest floor, and black tea with supporting notes of raspberry, dried herbs, and boysenberry. The palate confirms the nose delivering a black fruit-driven core with flavors of blackberry, five spice, mineral, violet, and a very charming touch of bramble. The finish is long and lingering with ripe tannins. Medium to full-bodied and perfectly balanced with a supple texture.

How to Serve

Like all of Tongue Dancer's Pinots, this wine needs nothing but a glass but it really loves grilled meats. Be sure to decant the Rambling Fox to get the full aromatic and flavor experience.
