Beverage of the Week (BOW)
Samson Delilah Raspberry Fruit Wine Washington NV
Product Story
Perhaps the greatest fruit wine that we have ever tasted. You will forget it's a raspberry wine and start wondering what's in this Syrah based blend? This wine is made from a variety called Meeker raspberries, the variety known for its intense flavor and rich bouquet. The fruit is grown at Samson's own farm. In the glass it is certainly fruity but much drier than your expect. It's simply a lovely example of artisan fruit wine. 4 Stars/91 points
Brand Story
Samson is a unique winery built on a generations old fruit farm in the Nooksack River Valley in the northernmost corner of Washington’s Puget Sound Appellation. In 2000 they began building building converting an old, dirt-floored dairy barn into a modern winery and tasting room at one of the family's raspberry fields near Lynden, Washington. Canadian-born and UC Davis trained winemaker Ron Taylor worked to develop fruit wines that would surpass expectations. He succeeded. In June of 2002 Samson Estate, so named to honor their father Sam, opened their doors. Today Samson offers a selection of vinifera (vitis vinifera – the family of classic wine grapes) wines, as well as off-dry and sweet, fruit based wines.
Tasting Note
Brilliant, deep ruby color. The aromatics are very intense offering scents of raspberry, and pomegranate with supporting notes of strawberry, wet river stones, and rose petals. The palate confirms the nose delivering a red and black fruits-driven core with flavors of dense red berries. The finish is long and lingering with soft but chewy tannins. Medium to full-bodied and perfectly balanced with a supple texture.
How to Serve
This charming wine needs nothing but a glass but it's a great accompaniment to grilled chicken or a spicy noodle dish.
