Troon Vineyard Estate - Kubli Bench Vermentino Applegate Valley 2017

Product Story

We have been a fan of the Troon Vermentino since first tasting their 2014 vintage. It was clear then, and remains certain, that the climate found in Oregon's Applegate Valley is ideal for growing grapes like Vermentino. Vermentino is native to Italy where it makes fresh and vibrant wines from Liguria to Sardegna and locations in between. It is also grown in the South of France with great success. Troon's 2017 Vermentino is different than their previous releases having been barrel fermented and aged for six months in mature oak. We love the bright acidity and the gentle alcohol strength — just 12% abv.

Brand Story

Troon Vineyard started quietly over four decades ago when Dick Troon planted vineyards in Southern Oregon. He sold grapes to local wineries but soon discovered that the best business decision was to create his own wines. He converted his barn to a winery and slowly built the brand until he sold the winery to his friend Larry Martin in 2003. Today, Troon Vineyard is owned by Dr. Bryan White and Denise White. The Whites along with Craig Camp, general manager, and winemaker Steve Hall lead the innovative wine making efforts at Troon. Craig is a wine industry veteran with a sharp palate, encyclopedic knowledge of the wines of the world, and relentless energy. Troon offers a wonderfully diverse selection of varietal wines and blends ranging from Malbec to Tempranillo and Vermentino to name just a few. Beginning with the 2018 vintage the fruit utilized by Troon was farmed 100% organically and biodynamically. All Troon wines were crushed by foot, fermented with only native yeasts with no additives of any kind. If you are seeking unique wines with style and gusto you need to get acquainted with Troon Vineyard.

Tasting Note

Brilliant, light green/gold color. The nose is moderately intense offering scents of green apple and pear with supporting notes of kumquat, green tea, sandalwood, and wet stones with a pleasingly herbaceous accent. The palate echoes the nose delivering an orchard fruits and citrus-driven core with flavors of green melon and sudachi. The finish is long and lingering with silky fruit and citrus zest accents. Medium-bodied and perfectly balanced with a bright and slightly creamy texture.

How to Serve

This terrific white is the ideal aperitif offering complex flavors with bright acidity. At the table pair the Troon Vermentino with roasted fowl and smoked salmon.
