Beverage of the Week (BOW)

Beringer Bros. Tequila Barrel Aged Sauvignon Blanc California 2017

Product Story

This is a unique animal being lush while sprite with subtle hints of agave and charred American oak. This opulent Sauvignon Blanc is made with a 4% Albarino, 3% Chardonnay, and 1% Muscat in the mix. The Beringer Bros. Tequila Barrel Aged Sauvignon Blanc was fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks to preserve the bright fruit flavors. Only 20% of the finished wine is aged barrels that has previously aged Tequila for a period of 60 days. Among the wines in this series barrel-aged wines this Tequila Barrel Aged Sauvignon Blanc shows the greatest impact of the barrel. This marriage of Tequila barrel and Sauvignon Blanc is really quite charming.

Brand Story

More than 150 years ago the Beringer brothers founded a winery and distillery in California’s Napa Valley. Today the Beringer name is virtually synonymous with California wine and the original distillery is all but forgotten. To honor their founders Beringer has introduced a new line called Beringer Bros. Bourbon Aged wines that to date include Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Red Cuvee, and this unique Tequila Barrel Sauvignon Blanc. The wines are cleverly aged for a brief period in second-pass Bourbon barrels that imparts the delicious subtle of charred American oak with accents of sweet Bourbon. The labels feature a historic photo of the Beringer Brothers in front of the old winery/distillery.

Tasting Note

Brilliant, medium green/gold color. The nose is moderately intense offering scents of grapefruit and lemon curd with supporting notes of citrus zest, fresh herbs, and vanilla. The palate echoes the nose delivering a tropical fruits and citrus-driven core with flavors of lychee, coconut, and lemon grass. The finish is long and lingering. Medium to full-bodied and nicely balanced with a opulent texture that finishes with tart citrus accents.

How to Serve

Serve chilled with nothing but a glass or serve alongside roasted fowl and firm fish.
