Beverage of the Week (BOW)
Old Pulteney 15 Years Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Product Story
Since much to our shock and horror Old Pulteney discontinued their great 17-year-old, this lovely 15-year-old is our new favorite Old Pulteney Malt. We find this to be the most perfect expression offered by Old Pulteney. Every Whisky distillery portfolio offers one malt that absolutely hits the sweet spot marrying the rich and bold flavors associated with young Whiskies with more delicate and nuanced flavors found in mature Whisky. If you have room for just one Old Pulteney in your spirits cabinet we suggest this lovely, near-perfect, 15-year-old.
Brand Story
Old Pulteney is the most northerly distillery on Scotland's mainland. It was founded in 1826 in the historic fishing town of Wick. At one time the unassuming port at Wick was Europe's most prolific herring port. In the early 20th century Wick had a reputation as a rough town and the lawlessness and drunkenness led the town leaders to impose a 25 year prohibition on alcohol in 1922. These days it's a charming and safe town.
Tasting Note
Brilliant, pale amber color. The aromatics are intense and complex with waves of honey, toffee, ginger, candied citrus zest, and cocoa nibs. The palate echoes the nose delivering a rich and powerful honey and malt-driven core with waves of vanilla, dark chocolate, and citrus with hints of black pepper and sea salt. Full-bodied with dense malt throughout balanced with fresh acidity, citrus, and right salinity. Since much to our shock and horror Old Pulteney discontinued their great 17-year-old, this lovely 15-year-old is our new favorite Old Pulteney Malt. $90 –
