Beverage of the Week (BOW)
Redwood Empire Emerald Giant Rye Whiskey
Product Story
This is a bold Rye with style and balance as well. It's made with a mash-bill of 95% Rye and 5% malted barley — so there is no chance of mistaking this Whiskey with a Bourbon! It's aged for three to five years in charred American oak barrels in Redwood Empire's West Sonoma County rack house that promotes even and consistent maturation. Their Rye Whiskey is named for the Emerald Giant tree that stands over 360 feet tall in California's Redwood National Park.
Brand Story
Named for the “Redwood Empire” that stretches from San Francisco to the Oregon border. Redwood Empire Whiskey has a bold and noble mission to plant a tree for every bottle of their Whiskey sold. To date (July, 2020) Redwood Empire has planted over 185,000 trees. Each product in their portfolio is named for an iconic Redwood tree. They source their grains from the Midwest and California. The distillery is located in the heart of the Russian River Valley wine appellation in a former apple canning plant. The spirits are created on a custom-designed, micro-column still and aged in West Sonoma County. The Redwood Empire team led by Head-Distiller Jeff Duckhorn, follows an environmentally sustainable approach in all stages of production. At present Redwood Empire offers three Whiskies with talk of more expressions coming soon.
Tasting Note
Deep copper color. The nose is filled with the classic scents of an American Rye as it offers complex spice notes with sweet, honey-soaked grains, and hints of brown baking spices and oak. The palate echoes the nose delivering a complex caramel and spice-driven core with accents of mandarin orange, caramel, allspice, and cinnamon. Full-bodied with great length and ideal balance and bright acidity. Made with 95% Rye with 5% malted barley. $45 –
How to Serve
