Whitecliff Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough 2020

Product Story

Our first review of a 2020 wine at BevX — it's a winner. The grapes were harvested at night, a technique used by winemakers to pick fruit at the coolest part of the day to preserve the grape's vibrancy and aromas. The grapes were gently pressed and the juice was clarified to best capture the essence of their Marlborough (NZ) Sauvignon Blanc. This delicious and vibrant wine is made with 100% Sauvignon Blanc, fermented at cool temperatures in stainless steel tanks. We love this pure expression of Sauvignon Blanc created in one of the world's greatest appellations for this noble varietal.

Brand Story

Whitecliff is named for the majestic white river cliffs bordering the original site. For more than 20 years Whitecliff’s dedicated winemaking team sources the grapes from a number of select regions throughout New Zealand and Australia, searching for varietal characteristics that meet the full-flavored, vibrant and approachable style. They offer three collections of wines: White Label (featured here) that offers three white wines, three reds, and a Rosé, a lighter alcohol range, and their Winemakers Selection — a reserve range that features Rosé, Sauvignon Blanc, and Pinot Noir.

Tasting Note

Brilliant, light pale straw color. The aromatics are very intense offering scents of grapefruit and fresh hay with supporting notes of gooseberry, kumquat, and citrus zest. The palate echoes the nose delivering a citrus-driven core with flavors of tropical fruit, slate, and green tea. The finish is crisp and refreshing. Medium-bodied and perfectly balanced with a vibrant texture.

How to Serve

The Whitecliff Sauvignon Blanc is super versatile needing nothing more than a glass — perfect for happy hour. It does also pair beautifully with fresh seafood dishes, roasted fowl, and mild to medium intense curries.
