Beverage of the Week

Vermont Spirits No. 14 Maple SpiritVermont Spirits No. 14 Maple Spirit
Much like their wonderful Vodka, this unique spirit begins with pure maple sap that is then fermented and then distilled. The Maple Spirit is distilled to a much lower proof than the Vodka (125 proof) to retain maximum maple flavors. The bold maple spirit is then aged in Hungarian oak casks until it reaches optimum maturity. See the Beverage of the Week feature

Spirits Reviews

Uncle Bob’s Root Beer Flavored Whisk(e)y
Brilliant, deep amber color. At first nosing it’s clear that root beer is in charge filling the nose with scents of a spiked root beer float. The palate is in full agreement with the nose delivering a viscous and sweet, root beer focused core with a faint accent of American Whiskey (or perhaps that’s just imagined). Assertively sweet with a moderate alcohol feel. This spirit is far more reminiscent of a Liqueur or Schnapps than a flavored Whiskey. $19.99 – 2.5 Stars

Troon Vineyard Piquette! Applegate Valley 2019
See the Full BevX Featured Review
Hazy, medium deep ruby color with light stream of fine bubbles. The nose is moderately intense offering scents of white peach and raspberry with supporting notes of bees wax, citrus zest, and rhubarb. The palate echoes the nose delivering a red fruit-driven core with flavors of pomegranate, apricot, hibiscus flower, and lavender. The finish is tart with semisoft tannins redolent of rustic French cider. Medium-bodied and perfectly balanced with a vibrant texture. $25 4.5 Stars/94 points

  1. Sean:

I am intrigued by the “Hanging Fruit” COW, but do have immediate access to Tamarind Soda. I have the other ingredients. Can you suggest any substitutes?

    Thanks,

    • I’m happy that this cocktail intrigues you — this will grow once you’ve tasted it. While there are substitutes for nearly everything tamarind is a unique flavor. Tamarind soda used to be tricky to find but the most popular brand, Jarritos Tamarindo, can be found at any Mexican grocery as well as Walmart, Target, and Amazon.
