Beverage of the Week (BOW)
Teeling Small Batch Blended Irish Whiskey
Product Story
This Whiskey is pure ambrosia that will undoubtedly appeal to a wide audience from the novice to the aficionado. This is the Teeling's flagship Whiskey and it features a very high malt proportion. The Whiskey is finished in Rum casks to add another layer of flavor and the subtle Rum notes do come through marrying perfectly with the rich Irish Whiskey. It's bottled at 46% without chill filtration that can rob a Whiskey of aroma, flavor, and texture.
Brand Story
The Teeling brand was created in 2012 but Irish Whiskey fans are well-aware of their work as they had a very public dress rehearsal with John Teeling’s creation of the Cooley Distillery in 1987. Cooley was the first new whiskey distillery in Ireland in over 100 years – this is no small feat. The Teelings created a set of stellar brands like Connemara, Tyrconnell, and Kilbeggan, and others on Cooley Peninsula in County Louth. John’s son Jack Teeling created The Teeling Whiskey Company in 2012, following Beam Inc.’s acquisition of Cooley Distillery. Jack and John Teeling both left Cooley after the sale, while Stephen Teeling, another of John’s sons, was appointed Beam’s global marketing director of Irish Whiskey. Stephen has since departed Beam to join his brother in the family venture.
Tasting Note
Brilliant, crystal clear. The nose is wonderfully seductive with sweet Irish malt in the forefront, supporting notes of exotic brown baking spices, vanilla, toasted oak, and beautiful Caribbean Rum accents. The palate echoes the nose delivering a complex mélange of grain and spice notes offered on a silky palate. Medium-bodied with perfect balance due to bright acidity and dry, oak cask notes.
How to Serve
Sip neat in a Whiskey glass with a drop of water to help the aromatics bloom.
