We had another busy week at BevX with new, tasty beverage reviews to share. This week we have six new spirits reviews. Enjoy!
The BevX reviews are like no other. We evaluate wines, beers, and spirits breaking down elements of appearance, aroma, flavor, texture and intensity as well the product’s “cool factor” and value. We also offer analysis on the creation of the beverage as well as any interesting points that make it unique. Finally we offer suggestion on how to enjoy the beverage including pairing and cocktail suggestions.

Saint James Imperial Blanc Rhum Agricole
Brilliant, crystal clear. The nose reveals classic Rhum Agricole notes of sugarcane and freshly cut grass with accents of tropical fruit, black pepper, and a bright salinity. The palate echoes the nose delivering a silky fruit and cane-driven core with soft grassy notes on the flank with subtle citrus accents on the finish. Medium-bodied with harmonious flavors of grass and fruit with bright acidity creating perfect balance.

Saint James Rhum Paille Rhum Agricole
Brilliant, pale, yellow straw color. The nose is wonderfully complex first showing wild grassy notes present in Rhum Agricole with dense dried fruit, wild honey, and barrel accents including vanilla bean and nutmeg. The palate is in full agreement with the nose with fruit cake dominating the core with waves of wood, grass, citrus, and spice on the flanks. Medium-bodied with complex fruit, grass, and wood notes balanced by pepper and acid.

Jura 10 Years Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Brilliant copper color. The aromatics are complex and alluring with waves of fruit compote with supporting notes of candied ginger, campfire, cocoa nibs, Sherry, oak, and black pepper. The palate echoes the nose delivering a sweet fruit core wrapped in smoke, Sherry, and earth notes with trailing accents of honey and nutmeg. Medium-bodied with bright fruit and perfect balance thanks to a vibrant dose of acidity.

New Holland Knickerbocker Gin
Brilliant, crystal clear. The aromatics are quite assertive while being very soothing and pleasing with vibrant juniper in the lead supported by citrus, coriander, pine, and a bright mélange of crushed spices. The palate echoes the nose delivering a bold, dry juniper-driven core with generous citrus zest and ginger accents with brown spices offered in good measure. Full-bodied with a dense but fine balance of aromatic spices that is framed by vibrant acidity with just enough sweetness to provide body and a rich mouthfeel.

New Holland Knickerbocker Barrel Gin
Brilliant, pale golden straw. The aromatics are very interesting and certainly barrel-driven with scents of cola and Whiskey with accents of ginger, sweet citrus, and a host of brown baking spices supported by hints of brown sugar. The palate is in somewhat agreement with the nose as the decadent Whiskey and brown spice notes give way to peppery ginger and citrus notes that become redolent of lemongrass and citronelle. Full-bodied with dense brown spirit and brown spice notes that are foiled by citrus and ginger ultimately becoming dry.

New Holland Blue Haven Blueberry Flavored Gin
Brilliant, crystal clear. The nose is wonderfully dense with sweet, blueberry jam with juniper is the second slot with accents of orris root and cardamon. The palate is in full agreement with the nose while being drier than expected delivering a blueberry-driven core with juniper and citrus in support creating a dry finish. Medium to full-bodied with rich and vibrant blueberry in the lead supported by citrus notes that give it an overall dry impression.
