Spirits Reviews
Van Gogh Dutch Chocolate Flavored Vodka
See the Full BevX Featured Review Brilliant, crystal clear. The nose is very alluring as it offers a complex mélange of dark cocoa with supporting notes of rich caramel and dark roast coffee with just a hint of vanilla. The palate fully concurs with the aromatics as it delivers a very generous explosion of chocolate with accents of caramel and mocha with a soft lactic note that’s foiled by dry roasted cocoa beans. Medium to full-bodied with decadent chocolate flavors that never becoming cloying rather it invites consecutive sips. $24.99 – 4.5 Stars
Van Gogh Oranje Flavored Vodka
See the Full BevX Featured Review Brilliant, crystal clear. The aromatics are wonderfully assertive with layers of orange zest equaled by dense orange pulp and subtle accents of sharper sour citrus notes. The palate echoes the nose delivering a concentrated blast of sweet orange on the front of the palate that quickly becomes a bittersweet Mandarin orange wave that finishes with bright citrus acidity. Medium-bodied and ideally balanced as the vibrant bitter and sweet fruit is foiled by bright acidity. $24.99 – 4 Stars
Van Gogh Mango Flavored Vodka
See the Full BevX Featured Review Brilliant, crystal clear. On the nose you are immediately struck by the purity of the mango and then the supporting notes of citrus and green melon complete the package. The palate is in full agreement with the nose delivering an attractive and dense mango core with flanking notes of orange zest and a cool note redolent of green melon. Medium-bodied with a silky fruit core that’s balanced by a healthy dose of vibrant acidity. $24.99 – 4.5 Stars
Van Gogh Cool Peach Flavored Vodka

Brockmans Gin
Brilliant, crystal clear. The nose reveals a berry explosion with ripe, sweet berries mingling with juniper and orange peel with brown baking spices and a bright citrus accent. The palate echoes the nose delivering a dense but vibrant berry driven core with waves of citrus coming in after the mid-palate and hints of mineral on the finish. Medium to full-bodied with a bold, fruity core and a vibrant texture. Gin is surely the most polarizing of all spirits. This Gin is ultra fruity with a well-defined berry impression on the nose and palate. $34.99 – 4 Stars
Grand Traverse Distillery Barrel Finished Peninsula Gin
Brilliant very pale straw/copper color. The nose is vibrant with the scents of citrus peel, grains of paradise, juniper, and brown baking spices accentuated by the subtle barrel accents. The palate echoes the nose delivering a spicy core with waves of citrus, cooking spices, and baking spices as well as they are fortified by the barrel. Secondary herbal and minty flavors are also present and likely created by the marriage of seasoned barrels and bold botanicals. Full-bodied with bold flavors and ideally balanced with a fresh dose of acidity. Too many barrel aged Gins suffer from subtractions in flavor and complexity due to the addition of wood. This lovely example ideally balances barrel and botanicals to create a very unique spirit. $42 – 4 Stars
King of Kentucky 14 Years Old Straight Bourbon Whiskey
Brilliant deep cherry wood color. The nose is amazingly harmonious and complex even before a water addition. (It’s better after a splash of water.) The nose is filled with scents of charred oak, baked apples and pears, caramel, brown baking spices, and leather. The palate echoes the nose delivering a dense fruit and chocolate focused core with generous waves of brown baking spices and oak with subtle hints of mint, pineapple, and pepper. Full-bodied with a complex and dense palate that greatly evolves with water and aeration. Sip slowly as it’s not cheap and there are just about 1,000 bottles available. $199 – 4.5 Stars
