We had another busy week at BevX with new, tasty beverage reviews to share. This week we have five new spirits reviews, and five new wine reviews. Enjoy!
The BevX reviews are like no other. We evaluate wines, beers, and spirits breaking down elements of appearance, aroma, flavor, texture and intensity as well the product’s “cool factor” and value. We also offer analysis on the creation of the beverage as well as any interesting points that make it unique. Finally we offer suggestion on how to enjoy the beverage including pairing and cocktail suggestions.

Tablas Creek Patelin de Tablas Rosé Paso Robles 2016
Brilliant, light peach color. The nose is moderately intense offering scents of spring flowers, wet stones, and grapefruit with supporting notes of orange peel and raspberry. The palate confirms the nose delivering a red fruit-driven core with flavors of pomegranate and accents of tart red berries. The finish is crisp with notes of citrus. Medium-bodied and perfectly balanced with a vibrant texture.

Tablas Creek Dianthus Adelaida District 2016
Brilliant, deep salmon color. The nose is moderately intense offering scents of jasmine, strawberry, and raspberry with supporting notes of rose petals and boysenberry. The palate echoes the nose delivering a red fruit-driven core with flavors of cranberry and accents of mineral. The finish is crisp with lingering tart fruits mingling with the ripe red berries. Medium-bodied and perfectly balanced with a vibrant texture while being a seriously “meaty” rosé.

Tablas Creek Roussanne Adelaida District 2015
Brilliant, medium golden color. The nose is moderately intense offering scents of kiwi, pineapple, and butterscotch with supporting notes of wild honey. The palate confirms the nose delivering a tropical fruits-driven core with flavors of ripe apple and lemon curd. The finish is long and lingering with oak and mineral notes. Medium to full-bodied and nicely balanced with a opulent texture.

Tablas Creek Vermentino Adelaida District 2016
Brilliant, light green/gold color. The nose is moderately intense offering scents of green apple and grapefruit with supporting notes of citrus zest and nectarine. The palate echoes the nose delivering a green fruit-driven core with flavors of kumquat. The finish is crisp with subtle, lingering mineral and citrus accents. Medium-bodied and perfectly balanced with a vibrant texture.

Planeta Rosé Sicilia 2016
Brilliant, very light salmon color. The nose is subtle offering scents of orange peel, strawberry, and grapefruit with supporting notes of spring flowers and quince. The palate is in substantial agreement with the nose delivering a citrus-driven core with flavors of pomegranate. The finish is crisp with accents of mineral. Medium-bodied and nicely balanced with a vibrant texture.

Old Pulteney 12 Years Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Brilliant, amber to gold color. The nose is beautiful offering scents of honey, wild flowers, fresh sea air, and sweet malt. The palate fully concurs with the nose delivering a creamy malt-driven core with flanking notes of sea salt and honey with accents of brown baking spices and citrus zest. Medium-bodied and wonderfully proportioned offering seaside accents to a bright and pure malt core.

Old Pulteney Navigator Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Brilliant, amber to gold color. The nose is sweet with notes of honey and loads of citrus (lemon and orange peel), toasted grains, wild mint, with hints of sea salt and green herbs. The palate echoes the nose delivering a vibrant and zesty core that is dominated by youthful spirit notes with a generous dose of citrus and hints of cocoa bean, smoke, and white pepper. Medium-bodied with waves of citrus mingling with young Whisky and subtle notes of sea and spice providing balance.

Old Pulteney Stroma Malt Whisky Liqueur
Deep copper color with an apparent viscosity when swirled in the glass. The nose is intriguing with a definitive Whisky base supported by notes of honey, toffee, nougat, white chocolate, and brown butter. The palate is in full agreement with the nose delivering a rich and silky sweet Whisky core with waves of toffee and dried fruit that linger on the viscous finish. Medium-bodied with rich malt and sweet butter toffee with a subtle sea salt accent.

Palm Ridge Reserve American Whiskey
Brilliant, deep copper color. The aromatics leap from the glass offering scents of baked orchard fruits with supporting notes of caramel, honey, and roasted nuts with accents of orange peel and nutmeg. The palate echoes the nose delivering a rich fruit and caramel core with flanking vibrant spice notes with hints of black pepper and toasted oak. Full-bodied with a dense grain center that never feels cloying thanks to a bright dose of fresh acidity.

Palm Ridge Reserve Rye Whiskey
Brilliant, deep copper color. The aromatics are quite intense with waves of rich, malted rye with supporting notes of baked peach and apple with accents of caramel and brown baking spices. The palate fully confirms the nose delivering a grain-driven core with generous notes of wood and spice with accents of ornage peel and allspice. Full-bodied with a dense grain center that never feels cloying thanks to a bright dose of fresh acidity.
